Frequently Asked Questions

  1. What is a Retainer/VIP/Concierge medical practice?
    We prefer the name, "personalized medical practice." All of these terms refer to a medical practice where the doctor chooses to limit the size of his or her practice in order to spend more time with patients and be more accessible. In order to keep the practice small and intimate, we charge an annual fee while also billing your insurance company for visits.

  2. What does the annual fee cover?
    The Annual Fee provides for a Comprehensive Preventive Medical Examination and a Personal Wellness Plan. In addition, you will benefit from the following: appointments that conveniently fit your schedule, same-day or next-day appointments, minimal or no wait time, unhurried visits, round-the-clock physician availability via phone or email, enhanced coordination with specialists, house calls when necessary, prescription facilitation, and travel medicine services.

  3. Do I still need insurance?
    Yes. Membership to our Personalize Medical Practice is not to be considered an alternative to traditional insurance. Membership fees allow our doctors to maintain a lower patient census in order to provide highly personalized service. Fees for office visits, labs and studies, hospitalizations, and specialty consultations are billed as specified by your current health insurance contract.

  4. What about specialist referrals?
    As your personal doctor, we are knowledgeable about the best specialists in the area, and have excellent lines of communication with them. Our staff is able to coordinate these appointments, and, many times, expedite the waiting time for the visit. When you visit the specialist, it will be a conventional visit using your medical insurance. We are then able to follow-up with you and your specialist about the visit.

  5. How do I contact my doctor after hours?
    Upon signing your contract, you will receive a Welcome Packet, which will include your doctor's personal cell phone or pager number and Email address. If you have an urgent situation that can’t wait until morning, just call. It’s that simple.

  6. Does my annual fee apply to my insurance deductible, or can it be made tax deductible?
    Your annual fee does not count toward your medical insurance deductible. Some patients have Health Savings Accounts or Flexible Spending Accounts which may allow for your annual fee to be paid with pre-tax dollars. You should check with your specific plan to find out if it applies.

  7. Do you make house-calls?
    We do make a limited number of house-calls for those who are acutely ill and cannot come to the office. We also have some patients who cannot come to the office who we see at home. Feel free to inquire about this arrangement.

  8. How do I sign up?
    Just call the office at 801.519.2461 and speak with a staff member. They will be more than happy to provide additional information.
